Excelsior Technical Institute – Haiti

My trip to Haiti was headlined by the grand-opening of the Excelsior Technical Institute (ETI), which was created by the Charlottesville based VMDO Architects and Building Goodness Foundation. ETI will provide education in construction trades so desperately needed as part of the 2010 earthquake recovery in Haiti. The men and women who graduate from ETI will not only be educated themselves to help rebuild Haiti, but will also be empowered with the knowledge to teach other Haitians valuable construction skills.

The grand design? Haitians helping Haitians to create a self-sustaining Haiti.

It was an inspirational dedication, and yet another stunning building from VMDO and Building Goodness.

Though it was several weeks ago, I’m still inspired by the text and photos of Tom Daly at the dedication of the new trade school Excelsior Technical Institute, Thomassin, Haiti. Way to go Tom! Conveying a most hopeful day.
